The following reading journals have been assigned for the second quarter: 12. Select one of the discussion prompts from the Reading Journal Information Sheet and write an entry on one of those topics based upon chapter 12-15 of The Hound of the Baskervilles. Assigned 11-01-11 13. Choose one of the characters that the novel failed to mention what happened to (i. e. Frankland, the Barrymores, Laura Lyons, Beryl Stapleton, Dr. Mortimer). Write a creative story that depicts what life is like for them after the events in The Hound of the Baskervilles. Assigned 11-08-11 14.Write a book review for The Hound of the Baskervilles. (Three paragraphs) Assigned 11-11-11 15. Refer to page 744 of your textbooks. Under the subheading "Writing About the Epic," provide a response for prompt below. Assigned 11-30-11 16. Describe how the following quote "greed proves to be their downfall" and how this applies to Book Nine of The Odyssey. Assigned 12-06-11 17. Books 9-12 of The Odyssey tell of Odysseus' most famous adventures; in fact, this is all that many readers know of The Odyssey. Why do you think these particular adventures continue to fascinate people? How did you feel about these favorite parts of The Odyssey? Assigned 12-07-11 18. Refer to page 781 of your textbook question #9. The Odyssey is centuries and centuries old. Are the human feelings revealed by the people in The Odyssey still important to people today? For this assignment, read the short poem entitled "The Man He Killed" and compare it to "The Sniper" mentioning items a, b, and c under the poem. Assigned 9-23-10 5. How does this sentence set the mood or atmosphere of the novel? Assigned 10-14-11 10. Select one of the discussion prompts from the Reading Journal Information Sheet and write an entry on one of those topics based upon the first three chapters of the novel. Assigned 10-17-11 11. Looking at chapters three and four specifically, analyze the unusual or unnatural events that are occurring.
